Local Point of Interest

Before you go the last few miles to Adamsville you may feel like stopping in Crump, Tennessee, where you can check out the weekend flea market. Adamsville is the resting place of Buford Pusser, the infamous sheriff. Stop in at his former home and museum to learn a little local folklore before heading on to Savannah and Pickwick. What makes Savannah interesting for Tennesseans is that the Cherokee Indians crossed the Savannah Trail as they made their journey down the Trail of Tears. If you follow along, you’ll go through Savannah’s historic district and pass important historic landmarks surrounding Alex Haley Sr. as well as the Civil War. In Pickwick, the town host to the state park, which is located just about on the border of Mississippi and Alabama. During the warm months Memphians flock to the park for summer “fun in the sun,” and in fall visitors can catch a beautiful vision of the autumn foliage reflected in the glassy lake water. Some special attractions include: Natchez Trace State Park, Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge, Mousetail Landing State Park, Saltillo Ferry, Savannah, Shiloh National Military Park, Shiloh Indian Mounds National Historic Landmark, iron furnaces, historic homes, scenic views, fall color, hiking, golfing, biking, boating, fishing, hunting, and wildlife viewing. With so much to do, you’ll never run out of reasons to come to Pickwick again and again every year.
